A note from Mr. Bucher:

Good morning. Just because I’m tinkering away at some bigger Monster issues shouldn’t mean that I stop drawing them, should it? It’s so easy to stop drawing. And we can’t have that. So here are two new Monsters, fresh from my pen to your home. Please see it as a little reminder that 344 LOVES YOU

Stefan is in an uproar.  Someone has had the audacity to market a “Monster-Go-Away-Spray,” a product for the low-low price of $9.95 that purports to zap innocent monsters who only want to play hide and seek with little ones.  Some people will do anything for a dollar, including defaming blameless monsters.

And remember, if you need more monsters more of the time, Stefan’s 100 Days of Monsters is the tome for you!

One of Stefan’s monsters has been “Pumpkinized” by Terry Hardin.  Mr. Bucher explains:

“The brilliant Terri Hardin was on the team that designed and puppeteered the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man for Ghostbusters, and helped build the still-suits for Dune. She designed and puppeteered the Foster Farms chickens, but she also—and I found this out at the book signing at the West-Hollywood Book Fair organized by my friends at Dark Delicacies in Burbank—carves a mean pumpkin…

Of course, I immediately hit her up to carve one of the Daily Monsters, and she was kind enough to say Yes. Last Wednesday I packed up my camera and drove out to Terri’s studio in Burbank, where I filmed her as she carved a Monster cameo into one of the biggest pumpkins I’ve ever seen (or helped carry, for that matter). Take a look at the two-minute-version:”

MONSTROLUMINESCENT PHOTOS
Good evening. You know how I couldn’t get photos of the new glow-in-the-dark Monsters yesterday? Well, turns out all you need is a 500W bulb to charge the ink, a tripod, a 30 second exposure with a few second of faint ambient light from an open closet door:

Unfortunately, we could not recreate the full luminescent affect here but if you go HERE you will have to cover your eyes…it is just that brilliant.

“My Bodyguard” was a film (1980) about a kid who “hires” a rather huge classmate to protect him from a group of bullies, led by a young Matt Dillon.
Stefan offers us his 21st century interpretation of every 95 lb. weakling-without-a-prayer’s secret wish:

Oh, yes.  Stefan is dipping into a whole new bag: SKATEBOARDS.

MONSTER SKATEBOARDS

Good morning. Another of the item I’ve been working on lately just got released, and I’m excited that I can finally tell you about it: Zazzle just started offering custom skateboards today. To mark the occasion they invited a whole group of artists to populate their inaugural line-up of decks, including… you know… me. And so, without further ado, please meet the Monster Skateboards!

Rolling down the sidewalk, jumping curbs, casually looking down and seeing your monster’s glossy reflection on your board…what could be better than knowing you’ll never have to skateboard alone again?!

Well, its not a monster, but it is another accomplishment in a year of milestones for young Mr. Bucher.  His first book, “100 Days of Monsters”, is flying off of bookshelves.  And now,  Step Inside Design magazine has granted Stefan the honor of designing their latest cover.

Who knows what lurks over the next horizon in Stefan’s world; we certainly don’t, but we do know that we will be there documenting his doings for your viewing pleasure.

Stefan and the monsters are branching out into the jewelry biz, but you know it had to be for a worthy cause…

The first is Metal For Monsters, a charity jewelry project started by graphic designer Eric Jean-Louis and industrial designer Vivian Cheng of Blend Creations.

{(met-l fer mon'strs) cause. 1. An effort by Blend Creations to raise money for UNICEF by collaborating with artists for a special line of limited-edition stainless steel pendants.}

They invited nine artists to design laser-engraved stainless steel Monster pendants to benefit Unicef. Happily, two of the Monsters agreed to help.

Each pendant is limited to 100 pieces, signed and numbered on the back, and sells for $81. $16 of that goes straight to Unicef. Please check it out.

Now hear this:  Stefan is really going BIG Time now.  Check out this blog post from his Daily Monster site:

”...A special welcome to those of you who just found out about this site from the L.A. Weekly. The Weekly is very kindly featuring one of the Daily Monsters on its cover this week, advertising an article on Making Fiends creator Amy Winfrey, and one on… ahem… well, they have one on me, too. Great thanks to La Vida writer Gendy Alimurung for giving a massive shout-out to our little Monster community, and to Joshua Bearman for making the initial introduction back in December.”

Monsters don’t die; they multiply!  What’s next, “Monsters Take Manhattan…then Paris…then…?!”  Stay tuned.
